Husband and wife accused of indecent behaviour with a minor arrested

Ali Shiham, age 45 years living at the address of Vaadhey in Shaviyani Funadhoo was arrested together with his common-law wife who is accused of aiding and abetting her husband to commit an indecent act with an underage girl.

Head of Family and Child Protection Unit_ Inspector Abdull Mannaan Yoosuf, speaking to reporters from the Police headquarters today has said that the case of the 14 year old girl from Funadhoo has surfaced while the Police were investigating another indecent of indecent behaviour.

The first person who was taken into custody was a man named Shiyam age 45 years.

His common law wife Mareena was arrested based on the information obtained from the investigation of her husband, Mannaan told.

The 14 year old girl is not in anyway related to either of them_ husband and wife.

The investigations conducted so far revealed that the man had committed grossly indecent acts on several occasions according to Mannaan.

This has taken place on a number of occasions since form 2007 he told.

It has come to the notice of the investigators that every time when the man committed these hideous acts his wife sits by the side of the bed with them, Mannaan told.

Since it is an ongoing investigation the extent of the insolvent of his wife in the chain of events is not for public disclosure for the time being.

Such immoral behaviour, recently in the country is on the increase. According to the information given by Police this case now forwarded for investigation to the Family and Child Protection Unit at Funadhoo, in collaboration with a special team from Police.
