4 people under arrest in connection with transactions amounting to 3.5 Million Rufiyaa using stolen credit cards,

In a special operation conducted by Maldives Police, 4 people suspected of purchasing goods from a number of shops using stolen credit cards were arrested. Among them are 3 Maldivians and a foreigner.

The people who were arrested include Ahmed Saad, age 22 years from Henveiru Sena, Mohammed Thamdeeh, age 21 years from Gaaf Dhaalu Havaru Thinadhoo, Mohammed Shafraaz, age 28 years from Henveiru Nooranmaageaage and a Malaysian National Thakiudeen Bin Hashim, age 33 years. All of them were arrested in the Maldives, including the Malaysian.

The Police were alerted initially in mid October last year. Consequent to the intelligence gathered by the Police Intelligence Department the 4 people involved were arrested on 25 March under the special operation conducted by the Commercial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Investigations to find the remaining people who are associated with this case are on going. According to the Police they are receiving full cooperation from Bank of Maldives Plc, Cyprea Private Ltd and Divehiraajeyge Gulhun Pte Ltd, in conducting further investigations. In addition foreign institutions such as Malaysian Police, Singaporean Police and Sri Lankan Police are extending considerable corporations.

This information was released in a special media briefing held this afternoon at Police Headquarters, by Inspector Ismail Atheef, Head of Commercial Crime Unit.
